With a significant amount of free time on our hands due to the lockdown, many are putting their entrepreneurial hats on to survive in this economic crisis. There is no doubt that now might probably be a good time to try out a side hustle or work on that business idea. However, if we don't choose a venture strategically, there is a high chance we might waste our time and effort. Here are five key questions that are worth answering when considering a side hustle:
Are you passionate about it?
Although this might sound cliché, there are several reasons why passion is really essential if you are going to start a side hustle. Apart from the emotional benefits and the good feeling you get from doing something you are passionate about, you are also more likely to be creative with the project. Furthermore, passion helps fuel resilience which is needed during challenging times which are almost guaranteed to come with any entrepreneurial venture.
Are you good at it?
There is no point pursuing something you’re passionate about if you don’t have any skills or abilities in that area. This is why the ‘follow your passion’ advice can sometimes become harmful especially when people quit their jobs as a result. However, when you are really good at what you are passionate about, there is a good chance the quality of your product or service would be of a high standard.
Do people need it?
It is possible to get so carried away by a business idea or side hustle ambition that we lose perspective on its commercial viability.
