Be a human being at work

It is a known fact that a major difference between human beings and animals is that, animals act on instinct while human beings have the power of intention, which means we can choose how we want to act in any given situation. With this in mind, I believe we can be more intentional about our careers in at least three ways.
Firstly, it would probably be ideal that we are able to be ourselves and express who we are everywhere we go, especially in the workplace. In other words, you don't have to go with the flow and continue with a job or career path because you fell into it. You can decide to ensure that your job is aligned to your personal traits, strengths, passions, values, goals and ambitions.
Secondly, a good question that is always worth asking is 'who am I being on a daily basis'. Many times the person we think we are and the person we are presenting at work could be totally different and sometimes even opposite. In fact, according to branding expert Susan Chritton, your personal brand isn't what you think you are, it's really what people think you are. This is why self-awareness is essential as it allows us to really reflect and be conscious of the image we are portraying.
Finally, our power as a human beings is that we can literally choose to change the direction or course of our career life, even when our current position is completely opposite to who or where we want to be. This might mean leaving everything behind and following your passion, or setting some ground-breaking goals to transform and accelerate your career. Irrespective of the amount of qualifications or experience you have at the moment, you can choose where you want to be in the future and direct your energy towards it.
